But they show in Windows Explorer. See example below, in xplorer² (first picture) W10Privacy.exe has a generic executable icon, in Explorer it has the correct icon. This is not true in all folders - Downloads and Desktop in xplorer² show the expected icons.
Any ideas? Windows 10 Pro, xplorer² ultimate 5.0.0.2. Many thanks.

have you chosen a "plain" icon mode? Check your TOOLS > OPTIONS
also a "fast network" policy (if selected by options), results in plain icons in network folders (but I don't think D: is a mapped network drive?)

Ah, that fixed it. I have unselected "Faster network access with plain icons etc" and the icons have appeared. D: is a mapped subfolder of C:, not a true network folder, but I guess it is treated as one (it was created with "net use").
