declone .11 finds similar files too

Post by nikos »

approximate duplicates with an adjustable tolerance (scan options property page) are possible.
at present file tags are used eg. ID3 tags for music, so detection requires good quality tags in your files
for more information press F1 key to read the documentation
thanks for your feedback

Not impressed! 98%, finds files that are totally different. The default of 90% was a joke. I'll stick to contents compare. AI, not for me. Remember HAL in 2001.

Agreed. Not at all useful for me in finding similar pictures. Seems to be too much emphasis on similarity of attributes and not nearly enough (or any?) on similarity of the images themselves.

I need to find images that look similar regardless of name, date, size, etc.

guys, I said that content similarity isn't available yet.
This version should be tested against music and ebooks. Video too but usually video tags are not very good.

Nikos, You didn't make it clear that similar contents were not checked.
Since I don't listen to compressed MP3 music, it's useless for classical music (try an organ recording with MP3 compression), then I have no files to check.

why is it "useless for classical music Mp3"?
do you have any duplicate music files that are not found?
see what you can expect for in the documentation

I don't have any Mp3 music files, full stop.

I worked with professional digital audio. The algorithms used for MP3 compression are not designed for audio, if you don't know the history of the Jpeg and Mpeg formats, then read it up. Jpeg was designed for journalists to send (in the days of slow data transfer) samples of their images to the editor.

I was one of the B.B.C. engineers who did considerable work with compressed audio, the Sony ATRAC system was the best. Dynamic range, transients and slow decays, characteristic of organ and piano, can't be handled with Mpeg. Remember the dynamic range of a concert grand is 50dB. Pop music gets away with it because the audio dynamic range is already compressed, before the digital processing takes place.
