Error in xplorer² .52?

Is it an error that only half the inactive pane is grey in build 52?

I find this very confusing, so I hope it is an error...

i can't imagine how this looks
can you post a snapshot?

Are you using detailed view?

eivind, if in detailed view, perhaps are you mistaking the darker grey used to indicate a selected arranged by category (ascending/descending name or whichever type you arranged by). I think this is a new feature and the inactive pane's grey color is a lot more subtle and closer to white.

Try arranging by a category that is not displayed.

I think eivind has an LCD monitor which is unable to separate the various shades of gray. I have an LCD monitor at home and a CRT at work, this last version works much better on the latter.

After upgrading to 0052 I had the same "problem" in detailed view, but only in the left pane
It was not easy to see wich pane was active.
Because one pane behaved correctly I started regedit and checked if there was any differences in the settings, and found that "binDefaultSortCol" had a difference. The right pane had the value <fffffffd> and the left <ffffffff>.
I changed to <fffffffd> in both panes and the problem was fixed.

I can't find any info in the alpha.txt about "binDefaultSortCol" so I don't have a clue what it does, but it fixed the problem for mee :D

The complete path is: \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ZabaraKatranemia Plc\xplorer2\Left pane settings\
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ZabaraKatranemia Plc\xplorer2\Right pane settings

This solution I found without any knowledge about what I was doing, so do it on your own risk.

Maybe Nikos or someone else with a clue can explain?

it's hard to imagine what's going on without a snapshot. It must be because of this "dark sort column" background added for XP but I didn't see it in tests. Could you email me a jpg?

I have sent a couple of pictures to Nikos - hope you can use them.

Ok... Back after christmas holiday - I've put some some screenshots here... Hope they explain my problem better. :)

ok this is all down to the new "sort column" hilight for XP I added
since your sort column is so big, it gets confusing
i think i'll remove this for .53

It got quite confusing for me when I had to look twice to see which pane was active and which was not... :?

Alternatively some kind of on/off in "Options"? If someone wants this feature, I mean?

Thanks for the screen shots, eivind
I never noticed on my system because I set my XP to use classic windows formats.
I like the idea of emphasizing the sort column with highlighting.
BUT using shades of grey would not be my preference.
Grey is used well for de-emphasis (like the inactive pane).
A light yellow would be a good choice for emphasis (the sort column).
So my recommendation is to tweak the color, not to remove the feature.

I might even re-visit using the XP-style window formats for this! :D

PS: yes, nikos, I noticed right away that the date sort arrow has been turned to be consistent with "conventional" sense in v52

Now I'm really curious ...
I don't see any shading on sort column after reconfig'ing my XP window style. [XP-pro, SP1 & x2 .0.0.0.52]
What setting(s) are required to activate this feature, nikos?
:?

PS - I do see the shading of sort-column with m$ explorer, whether or not I use XP or "classic" style for windowframes. -- so I guess that wasn't "it".

@Nikos:

I Agree with Fred

@fgagnon:

I didn't do anything specific to get the shading on the sort columns. I too use XP Pro SP1 (with all bells and wistles :). I presume you are using detail view (silly question, I know). The lvsExtendedStyle I have for both panes is 17440 (4420 HEX). I suspect this setting could influence the behaviour of the view with respect to displaying things. Could you check this to see if yours differs??

fred must not be using the manifest file -- are x2 buttons and headers "old fashioned" too?

wrt column color, i don't control it directly.
even if i could, it is unlikely that yellow or any other single color would work for every available color scheme for windows. What a headache these colors are!

a. My lvsExtendedStyle was 4021(hex)
I changed one pane to 4420(hex) {flips two bits} and don't see the shading.
b. My buttons don't seem plain [bUsePlainIcons is zero]
c. I have the manifest file in same directory as executable; but otherwise don't "use" it, & have not edited it.

d. Alternative to an eye-grabbing hilite color is the inverse:
low-lite all other items (with very light grey background) leaving the column of interest bright white.
