Images in quick viewer

Post by flightjock »

Hi,
For some reason my quick viewer does not show images, only hex strings. Do you have to point explorer2 to an available graphic program to see images?
FYI, I'm using windows NT and do not have administrator rights so I can't change the registry if that would be necessary.

Thanks,
Anthony

old NT4s don't have preview capabilities
lookout for a relevant message in the DBMON output when the program starts

view | style | thumbnails should also be off (?)

I don't know how you would do it, or if it would work. But you could try downloading the free IrfanView program, then set your computer to open pictures in IrfanView any time you double click on one. In the 2xExplorer you would double click on the first picture and it would open in IrfanView. Then you set it full screen mode, and left click to move forwards through your pictures, and right click to move backwards.

Nikos, I have NT4 as you know and I can veiw jpegs, bmp's and gif's without any problem.

Maybe its a dll or something that got installed by another program, IF your sure that NT does not do this by default.

NT4 that have active desktop installed will show previews, others won't
or perhaps just a recent version of IE installed will do the trick too

flightjock,
Could it be that the picfiles are larger than the registry key value for nMaxFileSizeThumb ?
When that is the case, HEX code is shown in Quick View pane.

Hi,
Unfortunately I can't check that since all routes to the registry have been cut off by our EDP people.

Oh, well -- but I'm sure you can tell the size(s) of the jpegs you have.
If you can view small ones (less than 100KB) & not big ones, then it's the reg.setting which is the limit. I don't know what the default value for that setting is because I've tweaked mine long ago; but I think that it was in the range of 0.5-2.0MB - which should preview most material (excepting high-definition stuff).
