sort order - folder names with dots

Post by jimspoon »

I was wondering why folders weren't sorting "properly" when I pushed Ctrl-Alt-T to sort by type. The folders weren't in alphabetical order.

Then I realized - all those folders at the bottom of the folder list had embedded dots in them, for example:
"xplorer2 0.0.0.57 x2alpha"

It seems that for purposes of the "Sort by Type" feature, a folder with a dot in the name is a different "type" from a folder without a dot.

(Also the part after the dot will show up in the Extension column if it is displayed. For example the "extension" for the folder above is "57 x2alpha".)

OK, so maybe I shouldn't be using dots in my folder or file names. I just like it better than an underscore. Easier to type and purtier, too.

It's default behaviour even in M$ Explorer to see the part after the last dot as extension, both for files and folders. So X2 is no different in this respect.
Dumb questions are the ones that are never asked :turn:
