New (I guess) idea about pane view

Post by liniello »

What about a history view?
I mean this: now you click on the folder ABAB and then you enter into it.
Then you click on the folder BCBC that's into ABAB and so on.
Why not something like this?

ABAB
----
BCBC
----
file1
file2
file3

So by this way you can see at any time all folders that are above and click at any of them to move into it.
I know, there's the Drive Bar (or the Tree in X2), but:
1 - I haven't ever used the tree - ok, that's me, maybe you use it :)
2 - The history idea will be nearest to the files, that's where the mouse is more often
3 - It's useful, I can see ... ehm, simply a history
4 - It's nice! :) other files manager don't have it!

That's it.

well, xplorer² already has some history viewing capabilities :D :

a.) r-clicking each pane titlebar shows a dropdown history of (up to) the last 10 folders visited in the corresponding pane during the current xplorer² session.

b.) clicking on the dropdown "arrow" at right end of addressbar shows a history of the last 30 folders viewed (actually 30 is only the default setting, & can be modified up or down in Tools | Options... menu) This history is persistent from session to session.

Beyond the above, I'm not sure how you would want to present a history view. {i.e.: Either I don't understand your suggestion, or cannot see how it would be other than confusing. ... Please try to explain your idea in more detail -- especially if the existing history features do not address what you think may be needed ... } [edited 3/14 -fg-]
