Bug renaming folders (testing on XP)

Post by Luther »

Go to tree and click twice on a folder to rename it. Enter characters until folder name exceeds width of tree. Hit enter. Active folder view switches to C:Documents and Settings\user\Desktop.

The length of the new name seems to be the thing that triggers this switching. Using a short name does not cause a switch.

(Sorry if this is a repeat. Could not find previous report of this bug.)

Just reconfirmed this - it happens every time I try to rename a folder in the tree with a long name, and end by hitting enter. I'm using version .59 on XP.

[EDIT (ignore earlier post in this space): I get the the reported bug, too (on XP sp1) with latest version & tried two earlier versions, including x²..59 & x²..57
each first with my preferred settings,
then both started freshly with new registry key sets (factory defaults).

{I was looking for assertion errors :oops: , of which there were none -- just the folderpane view jumping to the "desktop" as reported by others}

also tried on w98, but found that no matter how long or short the folder rename was, the folderpane did not update (even with ctrl+R)
but d-clicking in folderpane resulted in jump to parent folder.

back to XP machine & found that [different from Luther's initial report] no matter what the tree-pane renamed foldername length is (longer or shorter or 1 character), the folderpane view jumps to "desktop" :?

I have tried this with different lengths, but only when the length > tree width does the switch happen on my machine. This is very consistent. I have never been able to reproduce the bug with a short length.

If you have something specific you want me to try, let me know.

For me, this happened right after I started using xplorer, so it was still set to "Factory" defaults.

unfortunately these "defaults" have been changing all the time
what value do you see in binTreeOptions?
(under HKCU\Software\ZabaraKatranemia Plc\xplorer2\MainFrame Settings)

perhaps it has something to do with XP SP1 since all you guys have it but not me where i'm testing...

HKCU\Software\ZabaraKatranemia Plc\xplorer2\MainFrame Settings\binTreeOptions=3

It can't have anything to do with SP1, because I'm running XP Pro "original".

i think i know what's going on
you must be renaming the folder you are browsing
the active pane realizes that and goes back to the desktop for safety
(like as if the folder was deleted)

Yes,
but that should be legal (as it is with winExporer).
