batch editing file names

hello,

using x2pro / beta .96

i have 2000 files in a folder (text files, win xp)

lets say 500 of them have the word apple in the file name
i would like to change the apple to orange

thanks for guidance,

Although there may be a way to do this in xplorer², I suggest you look at "The Rename", which you can find on http://www.herve-thouzard.com/. FYI, this little tip is in the excellent xplorer² documentation also.

x2 mass renamer is not good if "apple" is only part of the filename, e.g. redapples.txt. You can easily select all these things with alt+G command but you can't substitute only apple

One tip not found in THE Rename's help:

If you want to bulk-rename multiple files in a folder, THE Rename requires you to locate that folder in its Folders tab. If you have multiple folders to open, this could be tedious.

Fortunately, there is a hidden shortcut: just select a file from the folder (in x2 's main GUI or the scrap pane) and drag-n-drop it into the folders area of THe Rename. The application automatically loads the concerned folder and even highlights the dropped file. Now you can select other files and go ahead with mass-renaming.
