this is a debug version (slow!) without installer. See changes.txt for whatever's new and readme_beta.txt for instructions on how to get debugging info in case things go wrong

for me the most exciting new feature is the ability to preview and search for text in office documents and adobe PDF, so i'd appreciate if you gave them a spin

let me know if anything goes wrong, eg crashes or weird assertion errors

Nice work!

Working with tabs is much easier now with the added functions.
Tabs are so powerfull they maybe deserve an own menu entry (instead of putted away in the customize menu).

Also copien a tab to the opposite pane is very very handy. Maybe you can make it draggable with the mouse too.

The statusbar info is also very good now. But maybe it is possible to show and the total items + size and the selected files + size at the same time. maybe with a "t" and "s" to indicate the difference.

Very good work, without errors until now.

This new option for calculating sizes works like a charm. But how is this done? It took a while before they show up? Are you calculating sizes, starting with C:\ ?

Something else. Is it also possible to switch this behaviour selectively off for external drives (CDROM) and networkdrives? I'll like this function for my local drives, but I won't have a scan for a dvd, cdrom or network drive. That could become very slow.....

this isn't new functionality, it's just a hack that forces the existing ctrl+D command to be executed for every folder visited (if in detailed mode)

as you've discovered, the higher you are in the filesystem ladder, the more subdirs that exist and the longer it takes to get sizes (asynchronously). I definitely don't recommend this option, for local or network disks alike!

I think there is a problem caused by the temp files created by word while editing a document.  
If you have quick viewer open and select a folder that contains a word document that is being edited it will cause the following error:

I have one more comment about the new features.  The ability to open and close tabs by double clicking is great, but if you only have 1 tab open double-clicking will cause you to go up a directory, not open up a new tab.

Overall, the new features look very promising.  Being able to search PDF's and DOC's is a feature that I will use all the time at work.  It should save me a ton of time in my everyday routine.

this is a weird error but most probably it is caused by word locking the file it has open. It is perfectly ignorable

when there is no tab strip, d-click is on the titlebar; there it has the meaning of going up, and no mistaking

Hmm, what am I missing here? I downloaded the dbmon.zip, unpacked it, but I cannot find xplorer2 alpha. I found kenny.exe in both the unicode and ansi directory, but whichever I run, my about box always says version 1.1.0.3 [Unicode] and I do not see the alpha extras (eg Tools->Options->Advanced) either. I must be doing something stupid here ...

"kenny" is just nikos' name for the alpha

and as has been mentioned many times: you MUST quit all instances of x2 before running a different version, or the second one will pass the job off to the code already running, and quickly unload itself.
