Ok thank you guys, now I understand a little more.
As it is the root folder most of the time whiwh is not calculated.

Let's see...

That's it.
I've two partitions, and folder sizes from the root of thes two partitions are not calculated.

Ok, I understand it can be long, but could you try FolderSize and see how it works because it calculate every folder automatically and... quickly.

The way it works could be a very good improvement for x² ;)

so you mean foldersize calculates sizes faster than x2?
i find that very hard to believe

when running your speed comparison tests keep in mind that whichever test you run first will be much slower

so if you use x2 to calculate a subfolder size and then straight away you use foldersize, it will be apparently much faster but only because of windows caching information

In fact, I did not make comparison tests as FolderSize does not seem to calculate anything : it just displays the sizes.
To be honnest, it displays approximate sizes and a second later displays actual sizes.

I use x² and FD on to different computers.

Why don't you try it to see what to think about?

i just read teh spec and its a mammoth caching system!
i'm not sure it's worth the resources it consumes constantly monitoring system for changes

but the good thing about shell is that it is open and since you like that thing and it already works in x2, problem solved!

It may takes some resources, but I don't feel it (AMD 2000+ with 1GB RAM).

I'm sorry but I did not understand the meaning of your last sentence

what i mean is whatever you want already appears in x2, right?
foldersize should be available as one of the extra column handlers, use <alt+K> to select it within x2

Thank you for your explanation nikos... and you're right : it works great.

See below just after opening x² ; left side the normal window, right side with FolderSize set as you said.

And why not do the same for x² ?

FolderSizeSvc.exe takes 3716KB on my PIII 500Mhz

How to post

Post by tenbob »

I'm sorry about this but I am new to this forum BUT not new to computers (30 years).  I could not locate the option to post a new message on a new thread.    That's my first question

I am having trouble naming a newly created folder in Explorer-2.  The new folder is created but then it will not rename. :(

0. Welcome to the board, tenbob :)

1. use the (New Topic) button.

2. How were you trying to rename the selected item?
- with slow double-click?
- with menu: File | Rename ?
- with F2 ?
Do you get any error message?

tenbob Q. & replies thread is continued here.

you mean like, reinvent the wheel?
x2 works with your shell not against it!

No I mean : this complete and reliable feature to work without the need of an optional shell for xplorer², in other words, by design.
