order of copied files when using "copy names"

Post by profess »

Hi all,

When copying a list of files using Copy Names the files are copied in a 'random' order, for example, I have 8 files in a folder and their names are

00 Q1 Return Figures 2005-2006.doc
01b Q1 - 30.06.05.xls
02 Q1 - New Referrals.doc
03 Q1 - Job Search support.doc
04 Q1 - Group Support.doc
05 Q1 - In Work support.doc
06 Q1 - Job applications.doc
07 Q1 - Name Changes.doc

When I use Copy Names (Alt+C) it copies them in this order

07 Q1 - Name Changes.doc
04 Q1 - Group Support.doc
01b Q1 - 30.06.05.xls
02 Q1 - New Referrals.doc
00 Q1 Return Figures 2005-2006.doc
05 Q1 - In Work support.doc
03 Q1 - Job Search support.doc
06 Q1 - Job applications.doc

Also when attaching these files to an email, they ATTACHED in the same order as when I copied them (as above, 07, then 04 etc).

Whilst I'm here is it possible to ONLY copy the file names (not path + file name.

Regards and thanks for any help.

copy names (like drag-drop) is a bit quirky regarding order
to get the order right, and drop the path, switch into list mode, select the files and hit ctrl+P ("copy columns")

Hi Nikos,

Thanks for the workaround.

Is the 'quirky' behaviour being worked on?

Regards.

when drag-dropped, files are ordered as they appear in the folder, regardless of the sorting mode/order. Very rarely does this cause problems and unless there's public uproar i'd be inclined to let it be :)
