1506 beta

Post by nikos »

ok since the alpha is a bit too risque for some, here's a beta, in release trim. Still no installer but it contains the updated documentation

www.ps.ic.ac.uk/~umeca74/x2beta16.zip (750KB)

the major additions are custom groups and color coding
please let me know of any abnormalities

Nikos:

Looks very nice. I didn't think the color coding would be useful to me--turns out I like it; it helps more easily identify a few file types I like to know about.

Now then, I've noticed a pronounced flickering of the mouse pointer: about every 2 seconds (maybe a little quicker than that) it flashes to the hour glass, then back to the regular pointer. This occurs in each pane, in each tab, and--uniquely in C:\WINNT--I cannot scroll away from the selected file or folder: each flicker brings the selection back in view (or the "top" or "bottom" selection if multiple items are selected). This is irritating.

Any ideas? Anybody else seen this?

Many thanks for your help and for the new features.

Best,
Brig

It doesn't seem to be: I turned color coding off for C:\WINNT and the flickering and returning persists.

Also, after a reboot the time between flickers is a little longer now, 2-3 seconds rather than 1-2.

Show in Groups

Post by profess »

Hi,

Is "Show in groups" working with the new beta?

Mines is currently not working, but it's probably just me.

I don't think it is you. It is greyed out, but in the alpha it works.

DirKey

Post by Dhamu »

DirKey hasn't worked with the alphas, and doesn't work with the beta, and I'd rather like it to.  I can't get by on just 10 Ctrl bookmarks and 10 Ctrl+Shift ones.  It would also help if xplorer² would relax its accelerator-key restrictions.  "Accelerators meants for bookmarks shouldn't contain the <Alt> key."  Shouldn't that be for me to say?  I want more keys to assign to bookmarks, since I don't need 40 to assign to column sets and user commands and the rest.  Let any key be assigned to any command.

groups are grayed out because i forgot to put the manifest file in
just copy it accross from the alpha folder

ALT is not allowed for bookmarks since this key when changing folders would send the contents to the inactive pane

do you have tooltips enabled with something time-consuming  displayed in the tip?

Nope, no tooltips. Turned them off.

brig, try the debug version (alpha, not beta) and see what messages x2 is printing during these delays -- if any

Nikos:

Done. Rather than choke the board with the dbmon output (I don't know what's relevant in it), I'll PM it to you.

Thanks,

Dirkey

Post by mattbo »

I've noticed too that dirkey does not work with the beta version. I find dirkey very useful and it would be disappointing not to be able to use it with x2. Will it work with the released version?
