Deleting Folders/Files that are protected by Windows XP

Post by weigheyeman »

Hi,
I am having trouble trying to delete files that originate from the My Documents folder.

I have used a backup program to backup the my documents folder. On recovering the backup the files were placed in a "wrapper" folder called Drive(c).

I have recovered the files that I need but now have a folder (Drive(C))and it's contents  that I can't delete because it contains folders that originate in the XP My Documents folder (I think).

Any suggestions on how to tackle this with x2?

Regards,

Charlie

what error message are you getting?
sometimes it's down to access rights, so use the properties dialog (F12) on the folder and change its security into something you can change & delete

I think that I may be having the same sort of problem but changing the attributes doesn't help. I still can't delete one empty directory named LETTERS. Here is the error message:

Cannot remove folder LETTERS: the directory is not empty.

But I don't see anything at all in the directory. I have run

Code: Select all

attrib -h g:\*.* /s /d
to try and expose any hidden files but don't seen any.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of the directory?

Thanks!

James

I should have mentioned that this is a FAT removable usb flash drive.

My experience: usually something is locking the folders or files that you want to delete or move. I use this tool 'Unlocker' to get information about what is locking the file/folder. An other tool, mainly doing the same job is called 'Wholockme'.
