Typical, isn't it. I've had this kind of software conflicts before, and fairly often it is Norton AntiVirus that was causing the trouble :x
now try telling them that they should change their code to fix bugs!
I'll see if I can get in touch with Symantec's CEO himself to address the problem.

Just trash Norton. That will solve many problems :)

@MyDutchFriends
Dumb questions are the ones that are never asked :turn:

Darn....I still have a 1, 5 year subscription on their antivirus program...

Any workaround...? oke, only single select...

Still funny though as the Missus laptop also has NAV but no XP crashes....

If complaining at NAV what should I tell them is wrong with their code?

Thanx for your investigation….

Yes, I know but I already paid my subscription for another 1,5 year!! And you know this typical Dutch feeling...

On a serious note, I think it will be more of a hassle to completly remove NAV from my system....bare in mind I'm not a power user just a slightly educated amateur

Wat betreft "inbreuk op je systeem" van wat ik in de verschillende groepen heb gelezen geloof ik je gelijk....will get rid of NAV at the next earliest opportunity....

Thanx again zowel Mr.Pleasant en JRz

Thanks, JRz. Although I think this is not a very big issue, it is one more thing added to a large list, and it convinced me to go looking for a good alternative antivirus.

I gave Norton the boot a dozen yrs ago, and McAfee after that.
Both too resource intensive and neither could actually fix the problems they found in the early days.
My current favorite is BitDefender I've been using it for 3-4 years now, and I am very satisfied with it. :)

if anybody has access to norton support you can tell them that their context menu shell extension does the same mistake as explained in this thread: http://svn.haxx.se/tsvn/archive-2006-05/0131.shtml

basically they access the dataobject assuming it has fixed memory allocated (GMEM_FIXED) whereas they should use GlobalLock to access its contents

A fix within almost 24 hours after finding the cause of the problem... I don't think you intented to give Norton a fair chance in contributing to the solution, right?
This version does the trick for me: it doesn't crash anymore! Thanks, Nikos!

THIS IS SO COOOOOL… still trying to locate the site where I could educate the programmers of NAV with regards to the annoyances their program is causing, and already Nikos has a solution available….

Although not yet extensively tested, the patch is working on my side!!!
Also on the Missus’s laptop no more crashes….

Will scrutinize further, but till now XP2 prof again rock solid….:D

I again emphasize my respect for the CEO, tech support and customer supp (that is all Nikos himself), who managed to listen and came with a solution within the shortest possible time…

My compliments and thanx again…

7-zip crashes with Xplorer

Post by oscarspaz »

I have the same problem for a while: multiple select right click crash.
After reading this post, I tried out the patch file. It works on files but crashes with folders. So, as suggested in the post, I ran DrWatson and found that 7-zip is listed as having problem when Xplorer crashes.

Uninstall 7-zip version 4.42 and the "right click" problem gone!!!

I hope this helps. Do you need my drwatson log?

Cheers

What are the conditions? Right click on multiple selection in a scrap pane?

No crash here either with 7-Zip 4.49, x2 1.7.0.4 Pro and XP SP2 Pro.
