Some more info needed how it is supposed to work

Post by Cosmo »

I need some more info, how this works.

This is what happened: I ordered a lifetime assurance and payed the money this week and got today 2 mails: one from Plimus, where it says:
We have received and processed your order.
and another one from finance[at]zabkat.com - I think, this is you, Nikos. Here it says:
Dear Thomas,

Thank you for your order (xplorer²), associated with your main xplorer² reference {removed here}. (as in your main order email)

Please keep this reference number safe. It will be required in the future whenever you want to claim your entitlement for free xplorer2 upgrades and support.

Should you have any questions please contact us at: support[at]zabkat.com
Well, here I am with my question.
I had expected to get another license key, which ensures, that any forthcoming version of x2 will be valid. Obviously this is wrong. So please, tell me, how the lifetime assurance works and what I have to do, when a new version will arrive. Simply continue using the key I got, when I registered x2 the first time? The point, that makes me wondering is the fact, that I could to that also without having payed for the lifetime assurance.

issueing a "universal" key to all lifetime customers would be the straightforward solution -- in an ideal world free of keygens and hackers

I have not made a decision about this but at minimum you will be entitled to ask for a new unlock key everytime an upgrade forces you to "register" again. You won't be paying for all these extra keys, so your lifetime promise is fulfilled

Note that X2 *is* a target for key hackers.  There've been a couple of time I've Googled X2 and gotten sites of ill-repute, "get your free key," etc.

It was a big thing on the newsgroups too - and every now and again another one pops up, but most of them are old, verified bad license details that will not activate the program....

Who's lifetime??

Post by jumbuck »

Just wondering Nikos. Who's lifetime are the updates for? Yours or mine. I don't know how old you are, or how healthy for that matter. This could be a bum deal.
More seriously, I was fishing today with one of my best mates. He said he must get into Xplorer2 soon (because I keep plugging it and nagging him about it). I agreed that "Yes he could just knock it off without paying, but that I wouldn't talk to him again if he did".
For me life would hardly be worthwhile without Xplorer2. I could have knocked it off too (in fact I did) but after trying it for a while I couldn't pay for it fast enough. It's like having the light turned on after working in the dark.
I'll pay for the lifetime updates too with pleasure.
Thanks for your work.

that would be the lifetime of xplorer2. I'm not even 40 yet so that should give you a few years yet

From the latest edition of 'New Scientist':

FINALLY, the Meta Thatcham MCi motorbike alarm spotted by 'MS' at www.indurate.co.uk/meta.htm apparently comes with an unexpected bonus. According to the website, the makers have "extended our free ‘lifetime guarantee’ on this product". 'MS' wonders if this means the company expects its product to be useable in the afterlife. If not, what does it mean?

I trust this also applies to xplorer2?

Okay Nikos, you've convinced me to commit.

PS:  Lifetime upgrade via Plimus seems to have worked as expected.

PPS: I should warn you Nikos, I plan on living a looonnngg time...

PPPS:  Also note:  I'm an atheist, so a probably won't opt for any "extend your life-time upgrade" offers.   :D

Just wanted to note that I was just purchasing software at another site and got the same confirmation phone call.  I'd say I've had Plimus handle 5 or 6 orders at different places and this is the first time I've had to do the telephone confirmation.  It was a bit of a bother, but at least it shows they're trying to be careful with our financial info    -steve

the official plimus line is that they call only when the purchase details look dodgy or if it is a high value (price) order

I bought both the portable and pro versions.  Would 1 lifetime upgrade license suffice for both, or do I need to purchase 2 lifetime upgrades ?
