I have never been able to figure out how to get x2 to trim file names. To me this is a major shortcoming in the renaming function(the rest of the program is wonderful). Your best bet is to uses another program to do it.

I use the free:
Rename Master

get the Optional Right-Click Addon and Rename Master will show up in the right-click menu when more than one file is selected.

Another option is to go to Lifehacker website and search for rename which will give you a bunch of free programs.

Thanks - Rename Master looks handy, but unfortunately doesn't appear to work with folders, though the explorer (and xplorer2) integration is cool.

I've found 'Simpli-file Rename' at http://www.batchtech.com/catalog/produc ... ducts_id=2 which is unlimted free trial/shareware and looks to do the trick as a stand-alone utility.

Googling, its scary to see how much some folk are trying to charge for a rename utility. I saw several generations of one that over a period of few years morphed from a simple drag & drop target for $15 to a mighty beast for $50

Actually there are so many freeware renamers that are at least as good as commercial versions that I'm wondering how commercial renamers make a profit. :-)

I'm usually using a combo of renamers consisting of x2 mass rename, awx rename shell utility and Flexible Renamer.

The last one is my personal choice for a standalone renamer

because it's a feature monster but still intuitive (also a standalone). I use that only for complicated jobs.

But it's a matter of taste,

The Rename, PFrank, Lupas Rename, Ant Renamer (and even some more) are all quality renamers. You really don't need to use a commercial one.

You can add "Bulk Rename Utility" to the list of free renaming utilities. I've used this for years and love it. I just installed the 64bit version. See http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php for details
