Hmm, does x² support "comment tooltips" or something? I am currently in the process of commenting a lot of my files for several reasons.

I'm all for tags but I don't think X2 is the right tool for it (yet, anyway).
What if I want to edit just one specific tag in a 100 files, some of which have, in addition to the tag I would like to edit, one or more other tags?

The only effective way I have found of using tags with Windows is to incorporate them in filenames. Searching for files can then be instantaneous using indexing softwares like Everything or Locate and the "tags" can be managed using a good renaming software.

Ideally speaking, the operating system itself should support tags and realtime indexed search for all files, and incorporate this search functionality in standard file open boxes too.

X2 has been my favorite file manager for a while but it has a LONG way to go before it becomes a feasible tag management software. Windows itself is quite quirky when it comes to metadata, and MS really needs to put some serious thought and effort into a reliable tagging system.

That's funny--I've been using comments in x2 for years and didn't even realize they weren't Windows-supported (in certain cases).

Q:  I noticed in the latest versions of x2 that there are columns for contact, calendar, email stuff...  Does this main x2 will start incorporating these items into tags, searches, etc?  Personally, I think it would be great if x2 could quantify my Outlook .pst files' contents along with my other stuff ... Of course I realize that a desktop search tool is completely different from a file management tool   :)

@tux: use infobars or have a look at this

@ray: personally I don't consider tag management the most effective way to do files, it's way too imprecise. But xplorer2 gets you a long way, at least by being consistent. If you select many files and press <alt+Z>, the new tag you write is added to the existing tags. It's hard to remove individual tags, and it's slow locating them but...

@kun: I doubt any of these columns work, perhaps they are just for EML files (?)

Hm, the infotip thread looks quite technical to me. I'll stick with infobars then. :)
Thank you!

Hmm...  I assumed you put them there...  I guess I assume an awful lot about xplorer2 !!
