Request - any way to install on a locked down machine?

Post by RobOK »

Hello,

Is there any way to install xplorer2 on a locked down machine where modifying the registry is blocked?

Thanks,
Rob.

Thanks Nikos.  I should have been more specific in my question.  I have already bought the portable version which may come in handy, but does not work in my case as the Portable version can not be installed on a hard drive.

I am in an environment where I cannot use USB sticks and the computer is locked down (to some degree, not totally).  I do not want to run off of CD although technically I can.

So more clearly, is there a way of installing to a hard disk where no registry changes are allowed and you cannot run as Administrator?  Would prefer pro version but maybe Lite version is way to go?  I started installing and got a warning and cancelled.  Not sure if it is possible.

the easiest way would be to run it from a CDROM. I believe it will also run if you put it on some network folder. But it won't run if you put it on the local hard disk, that's a built-in limitation.

in the near future there will be a more manageable portable version

If you have copied X2 portable to C:\Temp, you also access it  as a network drive

\\<YOUR-MACHINE-NAME>\C$\Temp

I haven't tried this. See if you can execute X2 portable in this manner.
