Clicking on column name does not sort under conditions....

Post by WimdeLange »

When a pane has no files, you cannot change the sorting.

This sounds more or less logical, but it isn't.

I was using xplorer2 to inspect the contents of  two directories in some batch processes and I wanted to sort one of the directories on Name instead of on Modified. That was not possible when the directory was empty. I had to change to a directory with some files/directories in it before I could sort it. Or I had to wait until some files arrived in the directory and then click on the headers.....

Version 1.8.0.14 [Unicode] x64

How odd.  As I found (a bloody year ago, and still not fixed Mr. Nikos) here, x2 tends think there's nothing to do in a pane if no files exist to be displayed, so it just ignores everything.  This would appear to be another symptom of that.

Clicking on the pane header doesn't work but "View | Arrange by", or the keyboard shortcut, does work.

But the other thing using Ctrl-Insert to add a new tab does work, while it didn't work in the past.

Gandolf: Thanks for the suggestion on the View | arrange by or the keyboard shortcut..

Except when arranging by Date, for some reason... whether it be Modified, Created, or Accessed.  Plus, unfortunately, you're limited to only what the Arrange By menu provides.

As Win Explorer has no difficulty with this (column clicking, anyway), it still looks and smells like a bug.

Name and modified are available. That will do for me (for now)

Hmm... "Modified" (I assume you mean Date Modified) doesn't work for me under x64.  Name and Size, however, do.

I raised a question to Nikos back in 2006 about something similar.

Nope, does not work either. Same message. Is that message not available for everyone? Archived? Authorisation?

That conversation was originally in a private forum.
Nothing sensitive, so I moved it into the open. ;)
The given links should all work now.

There are private washrooms here?  I wondered where all the gilded loo-roll went to.  You upper echelon-types... <shaking-of-head-while-the-peasants-prepare-to-overthrow-the-oligarchy>

...for some reason I wouldn't hold my breathe thinking that 4 years later the beleaguered new father would have changed his favourite tune.  At least he has an excuse now... :D
