"How do I?" Flash videos download

Post by Telemacus »

Hi there.

You know how one of the options in Xplorer2 help menu is one which says "How do I?", and when you click on it, you can see some flash videos explaining how to do stuff.
Now, my question is, how can I download those videos? I'd like to download them to my hd so that I can review them when I forget how to do something, or to view them on my mobile phone when using public transport, etc.
Bandwidth is an issue for me, and having to re-download the videos every time I want to see them doesn't seem very practical (also, it costs Zabkat some bandwidth as well...).

I think it would be a good idea to make them "downloadable". It would definitely help me a lot!

if you view the source HTML of the demo video you are watching, it includes the link to the actual video, you can download it using its URL

for example watching the source of
http://www.zabkat.com/blog/wink/ccode.htm

you see the SWF path is

Code: Select all

SRC="ccode.swf"
then you need to download
http://www.zabkat.com/blog/wink/ccode.swf

That is NOT a good way to allow a user to download. There should be a "download" button.

In addition, there should be a "Download all" button, so that the user does not waste downloading the videos one by one.

Didn't I give you the new reference? ActivePresenter has many such features.

Hi,
This is an example with Pale Moon, an optimized Firefox-based browser (http://www.palemoon.org/).
If you go to http://www.zabkat.com/blog/wink/ccode.htm, press “Ctrl+S” and save the Web page, you get “ccode.htm”, plus “ccode_files”, a folder containing… “ccode.swf”…

Now if you drag & drop “ccode.swf” onto the Pale Moon (or Firefox) window, you get it to play in full window mode… (zoomed in view).

Note that saving the Web page with IE8 won’t save the associated “.swf” file. But if you drag & drop a “.swf” file onto the IE8 window, you also get it to play in full window mode.

The whole thing might work with Chrome or other browsers, I haven’t tried. Pale Moon is my default browser. It is Firefox on steroids!

HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

Thanks Nikos, a life saver indeed!
I'd tried that but saw "ccode.swf" and didn't think about adding the url.

I agree that a "download this" would be very helpful, but for the time being, a nice workaround.

Thanks again!  :)

PS: I wouldn't exactlly describe the method explained  in http://www.zabkat.com/blog/22Feb09-FLV- ... -part2.htm as "easier". ;)

What would be incredibly easier is making http://www.zabkat.com/blog/wink  public on your server! (at least for registered users).
But the button would be simpler, I agree.

If you use AdBlock Plus for Firefox:
1. Hover swf "video", to show "Block" button
2. Press "Block" button and copy SWF link
3. Paste SWF link to FF address bar and than "Save Page as"

I use this method to download Flash games...

As I tried unsuccessfully to explain, you don’t need any Firefox add-on to save a “.swf” file from http://www.zabkat.com/blog/wink/. You only need to display the target Web page (e.g. http://www.zabkat.com/blog/wink/ccode.htm), press “Ctrl+S” to save the page “.htm” file and its associated “.swf” file.

There is no need to copy and paste URLs or go through add-ons…
