I turn 48 this year. I always assumed he was older.

If he is right at your age, then it points more to the author, perhaps.

What month? I turn 48 in May.

Edit: Fun fact: I had my DNA tested by 23andMe. It turns out I'm mostly British and Irish. ...I didn't even know.

RE: Kilmatead search, that time he posted those pictures from his grounds, the waterfall and all, I think I remember him writing that he was somehow in charge of maintenance, or somehow in charge in-general. Not sure though... Me old memory ain't what it used to be.

Ides of March

Haven't tested my DNA, but I'm pretty sure that I'm at least 98% Indian (as in India, as both my parents immigrated from there, and my Dad once did a family history going back 8 or 9 generations).

Special K...

I always believed he was catfishing us all along, that he is an older man (I'd say 60-70s), Kilmatead being a diversion to who he is and where he really was located (but not far off). He had many responsibilities on an estate, and the forums and his long posts seem to be his comfort, outwitting us with words and programming - and a snide little so and so he was in my inbox! :D I was quite open with him, so at times it gave him valuable ammunition to shoot at me with - using the bullet I provided :) but that's K innit... You get used to his long posts, knowing that you'll be lost somewhere in the midst of the subject of the article or post, but that he'd get right back to it, provide you with help or some application he'd conjured up - an application which you never knew you needed - until you installed and tinkered with it's abilities!!

And that is the problem with anonymity - no one knows who you are and no one can contact a relative / someone you know in order to find out...

There was (t)his twitter page unearthed a while back. Anyone care (know how) to dig further?

I don't think that's his twitter page! I don't want to get into GDPR murky water but the name on his credit card isn't moloney :)

And my real name on my credit card is not John Galt, either, as I mentioned in a support ticket :P

And I, too, have a twitter page (and many other social media pages) with John Galt as my 'name'.

Doesn't really mean anything.

But, the description does sound a lot like what has been told in various posts here....

I am not really Dracula, either. But with the state of the internet, openness is dangerous. I had interacted with kilmatead from time to time. His life as a gardener and caretaker of a property outside of, but near, Dublin seemed to be his revealed persona. He was also aware of my posts in another forum (Macrium Reflect) but there was no one there with his name. So either he lurked or had another persona there.

He talked about and used a lot of literary references. He talked about visiting the USA and spending time in several areas of the country.

I like the possibility that he was an older person and catfishing us a bit. But his prowess related to programming might suggest a younger person (though I am an older person and spent parts of my career doing programming - and still do).

He was (and hopefully still is) one of the most interesting and intelligent people I have "met". That is why I am interested in what happened to him.

Exactly. While I knew less of him than many here, I would spend time, a lot of time, here and there and just read his posts - I loved his strong command of vocabulary a lot.

Kilmatead actually posted a lot of information about his living abode here:

I just wish the photos posted were archived or still available online.

Anyone up for a tour of old gunpowder mills around Dublin?

What hurts me the most is when Nikos converted the forum over, all the PMs were lost. I was holding onto and occasionally rereading my exchanges with Kilmatead.

With them lost, and nothing from Kilmatead for 18 months, I'm sure I'll never make that pub date I promised him whenever I finally made it to his beautiful Emerald Isle. Certainly it's moved much further down my list of places to go now that there won't be any meeting of the person I corresponded with, read with interest or disinterest, even fought with, but certainly one of the most interesting persons I had ever met online.

I've fought with this for a long time, but now, tearfully, I'll say

Goodby Kilmatead and Godspeed.
