You only discovered this now? It's been the de-facto standard test for... well... years now. I reckon it's the reason schools like to have children wear uniforms - so there's no slagging the underclasses for their poverty in competitive clothing. For the rest of us, it's just a humiliating way for Romanians to show off their "three digit" results to my rather pathetic "one digit result" when I pay my ISP 5 times as much as they do.
I do so fondly remember my 300-baud I had 25 years ago though... I'm not sure why at the moment, but at the time it was cutting edge... and I so dreamed of 1200... then 3200... then I embraced my Rip Van Winkle years and stopped caring...

Unfortunately, I believe the lucky bastard. I tried to tell him that the rest of the world sees Romania as a backwater country with nothing more than French-drains for septic-tanks, but they do seem to have decent, if slightly OTT, fibre-optic nonsense. Guess they go through a
lot of porn there.

The speed is good for foolish things like downloading at once a dozen video files from YouTube... or just one at 20MBytes/s.
And then there's RapidShare...
