Unfortunately this is not possible with the free-version, as it requires View -> Visual Filter -> Rule Based which is disabled in x2 Lite.  The stock wildcard filter only uses one rule at a time.

Were you to try the professional version, you would actually use two logical OR rules, wherein the first shows 'Attributes [S]' contains "D" (to display all folders) and another to delimit only matching filenames, such as 'Name' contains ".mkv" or something:

Actually, you CAN accomplish this with x2 Lite ... but it's a 5-step process each time you want to do it:
  • Alt+J  [hide folders]
    Ctrl+A [select all]
    Alt+J  [unhide folders]
    num *  [invert selection]
    Ctrl+Alt+J [show selected]
voilà!

What's the point of inverting the selection?  If I follow your 5-step plan to redemption, I only end up with folders displayed, and no files.  Methinks 3 steps will do for the manual method.

<Alt+J> Hide Folders
<Ctrl+H> Select from wildcard
<Alt+J> Re-Show Folders

...you end up with the original request, in a manner of speaking, no?

I thought the OP wanted to see only folders.
(which the 5-step does)

I overlooked using a wildcard filter (-*) to hide all files

I like the wildcard usage solution better than my suggestion because it is persistent: As the user navigates other folders in the given pane the filter remains in effect.
