Thank you for the ascii list in the message. It is still not working. I don't understand what is happening. Maybe the ip-address is blocked by a router here in the network? Or by some software like spywareblaster? No clue. Don't know how to check this either.

Hello,
after reinstallation of my xplorer, and recreation of my commands (show in thumbnails and list way), it works but I've got a console window opening ???

Solved: by default xplorer put an "$" in front of my command line and I've to changed it in ">"

Hi Stacey,

I'm sorry for being so cryptic. I've updated the original post with simplified instructions.

I followed the easy instructions and got the List & Detail buttons on my toolbar, but they don't do anything  :( I click it and the little hourglass icon comes on for a half-second and that's it. Help! I would love to add a Clear Filter button.

Double check the path to menuhack.exe. Ensure that exe path is enclosed in double quotes. To verify the path remove the command id parameter and try to launch the exe directly as

Code: Select all

>"C:\My Downloads\MenuHack.exe"
If you see a usage instruction popup, thent modify the command and add the parameter and try again. If you don't see a popup dialog box then your path is not correct or you are some how using a wrong button on your toolbar.

If this still doesn't help can you post the command description that you are using?

Thanks, I tried double checking the path like you said by removing the command code number and I did get the popup box about the missing code. However when I put the code back in I still get nothing but the half-second hourglass.

Here is the code I am using for CTRL-J (clear filter)

Well I tried this on my box and clear filter command works just fine. Which OS are you using? I've tested menuhack only on XP.

Are you able to execute any other command using menuhack or only CTRL-J is not working for you? Have you also tried executing this custom command directly from the menu (Customize->User Commands->clear filter)?

I know it sounds weired, but give this a final shot. Download another copy of Menuhack and copy it to some other folder say C:\ and try again with no other window open in background.

If you are using XP and all this doesn't work for you, IM me and I'll send you a debug version of MenuHack exe, to see which portion of menuhack code fails on your box.

hmmm ... sounds like what was needed was to get it onto your environment %PATH%
It is generally better practice to install it to a dedicated directory than to clutter up the root  You may want to consider moving it and adding the location to the %PATH%
But if you're not bothered by root clutter and it's working ... it shouldn't hurt anything there. ;)

not being a menuhack user, i would hesitate to suggest what to do in your case -- especially since the usual solution didn't appear to work, when you named the path explicitly and enclosed it in quotes.  You may have something "special" about your setup that would take a while to discover.
It was only that your 'solution' is reminiscent of environment path issues from DOS-days.
I think the least amount of bother is to leave it be if it's working.
