Access violation

Post by Euclid »

Since the last Windows Update I get an access violation on Windows 8.1 x64:

when do you see this problem, any pattern to it?
to send me the crash information file run crack tracker with the /D command line switch or just press Ctrl+3 keyboard shortcut
do you have the latest crack tracker version?

It happens during the search (with any term) after about 10 seconds, every time. Did you try to reproduce this on Windows 8.1 64 already?

WINVER: 6.2-9200 (win8) x64 (incorrectly reported by cracktracker because you are missing some entries in the exe manifest)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... s.85).aspx

IE: 11.0.9600.17207
Version: 1.7.3.5 PRO [Unicode]

if you cannot reproduce it, I will provide the dump.

I just tried on my virtual machine 32 bit win 8.1 and didn't see any problems. It could be some of your settings or the search engines you use? Try turning off half the search engines at a time (divide and conquer) to see which one is causing the trouble

my IE appears to be slightly older though version 11.0.9600.17126

Test it with Windows 8.1 x64 (All windows updates installed, VM with 1 CPU, 4 cores)
Ensure that you have the latest/same IE version (see last post)

With the default/initial settings of cracktracker
Search for xplorer2
Wait 30 seconds, crash
If you increase the number of of parallel searches (e.g. to "8") it will crash within a couple of seconds.

It crashes every time and tested with a fresh VM. Good luck.

there seems to be a lot of commotion with the latest IE11 update
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/f ... AllReplies

at present all I can do is wait and see if there will be a fix from microsoft coming soon, or try uninstalling the problematic update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2975687

even setting active parallel searches to 1 from settings (one tab), and disabling scripting doesn't help much, it looks like a completely random crash

ok I tried everything I could think of including all code in crack tracker that can be considered "dodgy hosting" of the webbrowser control, and came up blank

It looks like the hosted webbrowser control crashes whatever its apparent version. The access violation is "random" and cannot be recovered. I have reported this to the IE team and we can only hope...

while we wait for a newer version of IE a workable solution to run crack tracker is to use a virtual machine with an older version of IE installed. I have an old winXP installation with IE v6 and in there crack tracker works like a charm

sorry I can't do anything more at present :(
