deskrule catalog beta version

Post by nikos »

if you want to try out the new exciting offline catalog feature in deskrule, here's the beta
www.zabkat.com/test/deskrule_setup_beta.exe

the catalog is an index of your external (unconnected) hard disks etc that can locate offline files easily, see this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFlW-WMeEl0

any feedback or problems please let me know
thanks

Well, for the moment if I click in "manage catalog" nothing happens. :? (doesn't matter if I run DR as admin).

If I click in "offline search", I hear a gentle female saying "catalog not found" (I have no luck with women... )

"What's this" shows the YouTube help video.

thanks for trying it out. I don't understand the fault though. Try browsing the folder (in xplorer2) shell:appdata then enter ZABKAT subfolder. Is there a file called zOffline.db in there?

are you on 32 bit windows?

I'm x64 bit Win.

There's no zOffline.db nor *.db in either.

can you try to color tag some items and see if there is a tag database created in the same appdata folder? See here

This works, I've marked three items in x2 folder and they remain "in red" after restarting x2.
The thing is that I can't see the database in: C:\Program Files\zabkat\xplorer2_ult

I have enabled "view hidden items" (don't know exact translations since my Windows is in Spanish, but I guess you know what I mean) in Win Explorer.

What??? after trying color tags in DR, now I can work with Manage Catalog, add external storage media and search the catalog!! It all works fine :)

But I can't find the database in "C:\Program Files\zabkat\Desktop (search) rules" folder.

By the way, to get this I just run regularly DR, right click in any folder. It works too with Debug version, which also shows "assertions" message.

ok now I think I know what was the problem
xplorer2 and deskrule all save color and other data in APPDATA folder, not in the installation folder (that's readonly unless you are administrator)

anyway, nice to hear you are up and running, so now you can tell me what do you think? What's good and more importantly what's bad?

I'm gonna do some searches in catalog. I'll tell you later any thoughts.

Btw, I've just realized it's been exactly 5 years since I bought x2!

Quick suggestion: it would be nice to store the catalog's database in as custom path so that we can backup that file or copy it to a thumbdrive, for instance.

One more thing, if I add a media the db it grows in size logicaly but, if I delete that same media, it keeps the size and doesn't shrink.

the catalog is in this folder: shell:appdata, then zabkat\zOffline.db

I read somewhere about SQLite not releasing space, but it is reused when you add new media. I can add a command to compact the database if it is a bother!
