IFilter to view CHM manuals Advice

Post by admsupport »

I would like to see .chm files in the QV.

I followed the Ifilter link on the quick manual.

There the IFilter to view .chm file is from Citeknet

I read a warning from Nikos in another thread (viewing .doc in the QV after installing office 2007 .docx) about citeknet (If I recall well, the post says filters from Citeknet tend to crash X2?)

Q1. Can I have some advise.

Q2. As for the installation, after running the installer is there a setting to do in X2 to enable the filter?

Anyone with the experience of the IFilter for CHM from citeknet on the forum?

Is there another link for a CHM IFilter?

In last resort, I will try it  :hehe:  fingers crossed

I finally wonder about the utility using such filter in X2?
CHM files are usually manual of hundred pages.
Such large files take much time to display in the QV. (I had to set the option to 0 for the chm files to display)

I guess that's the reason why there is so little feedback, it is not worth it. I won't keep the filter.

with such formats the point isn't preview but searching in chm files for text. If you ever do that kind of thing you may find the filter useful

I see, thank you Nikos, I guess this change my previous post.

I did a few text search with .chm files. The plug-in is in beta stage. every times i use it, X freeze and there is a "no responding" message (szModName : hungapp  ). So either the plug-Ing is no match, either the files are too big, anyway I am better off using the search function inside the files I guess, especially when a file excesses a few MB.
