blog: rename files with your text editor
Moderators: fgagnon, nikos, Site Mods
as i said in the blog, this method is meant for hard cases, where there is little or no pattern that governs the mass rename. If you use a good text editor you can probably make things quicker using some search and replace command, possibly with regular expressions
fred you can just drag-drop the script file (as shown in the inactive pane of x2) to your editor of choise
ps i accidentally stumbled on this one from audacity blog recommending x2 mass renamer and its automatic counters

editorial renaming
I use AC Browser only for fast mass-renaming because it works superb,

Does remind me of one thing I do with xplorer2 which is difficult in another way. I have a directory structure (based on date) with invoices in it. How do I check if there are no missing invoice numbers?
Simple. Select the top most directory, hit Shift Enter, Select all, use Ctrl-P and copy the data in a spreadsheet with some formulas ready (and sort somewhere in the process) Use coloring or filtering to find the gaps.
If I had not xplorer2 I had to write a rather complex program instead of using some simple formula's in a spreadsheet.
