On the first item, I did do the export thing from Popeye. But whatever I did in starting the x2 experience on Quincy, the settings import didn't work. Because things didn't get installed in exactly the same place on both, I finally just decided to build from the ground up, something I hadn't done with x2 in years. So, there I was adding bookmarks and modifying toolbars and NOT saving every so often. Then I added the Admin command, which I had never tried before, but seemed logical to give a shot to with Win7. New window popped up. I closed it. Thought better of the whole thing and closed all windows. Restarted x2 ... well that was disappointing. Got partially through the setup again when a Windows Update forced a restart of the computer. After the restart and restarting x2 ... well that was disappointing. THAT's when I finally remembered I had to save the settings. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me three times and well, it's pretty embarassing to admit in public, isn't it?Kilmatead wrote:Unfortunately there is no setting for this (so I heartily endorse this suggestion), and no work-around (unless you write a script to inject the commands/bookmarks and their icons directly into x2's registry settings - which is easier than you'd think, but I suggest it largely as a recreational pursuit ).Gary M. Mugford wrote:'course, Kilmatead's going to mention I overlooked the setting to let me do exactly that, and most of the adding's been done at this point, but there will be a new machine ere too long.
For example:However, for the less adventurous, the reg settings from one machine can be applied to another directly (using the Actions -> Export Settings), you don't have to start from scratch each time. This works for moving from XP to 7 as well as ordinary backup.Code: Select all
$x2BookmarkKey = "HKCU\Software\ZabaraKatranemia Plc\xplorer2_UC.global\Favorites" RegWrite($x2BookmarkKey, Hex($Last_x2_Index, 2) & "_" & $Name, "REG_SZ", $Link) RegWrite($x2BookmarkKey & "_icons", $Name, "REG_SZ", $Icon)
See this in regards to disabling Tools -> Options -> Window -> Quick Viewer "Start playing media files immediately"Gary M. Mugford wrote:I'd also like some sort of toggle command for the preview that requires I actively click on a file name before displaying it. Or more to the point, playing it.
Thanks for the preview pointer. Have made the change. But it still doesn't obviate my desire for something similar for other files, too. I'd like just a little more control via a toggle so as not to interfere with the other 99 per cent who don't see this my way.
Settings can only be imported when x2 isn't running. Hopefully if V2 switches to INI usage, this might be mitigated a bit. When switching to an x64 system, largely the only changes you'd need would be the odd addition of "(x86)" concatenated to a few application paths.Gary M. Mugford wrote:But whatever I did in starting the x2 experience on Quincy, the settings import didn't work.
And, well, the less admitted about "forgetting to save", the better.
Switching to using an INI file for the settings (rather than storing settings in the registry as done currently) would be a Great change...Kilmatead wrote:............. Hopefully if V2 switches to INI usage, this might be mitigated a bit...........
And as stated previously, the desired attribute is PORTABLE....

Re: bookmark with assingable opposite pain
I'd like something similar for folder shortcuts, folder symlinks & folder junctions - i.e. Open in Opposite pane. With a similar dialogue as is used in Copy/Move.gerarddevos64 wrote:Hi Nikos,
I have asked it before, but this is my change to ask it again
I would like to have the option to make bookmarks where the opposite pane can be assigned to. Just like Speedcommander or TotalCommander can do. It would make (my programming) life so much easier.
Kind regards,
Gerard de Vos
Ability to put "commands" into the context (right click) menu. Suggest a customisable, cascading xplorer2 context menu item, including a function to promote commands into the top level context menu.

+ breadcrumbs in the address bar.
I'd like to see that status panel at the bottom and have cleaner look for a main window overall. See Explorer in W7 for example: I love that left-side panel - everything that you need is there, yet it looks very nice and clean.

I'm using Xplorer2 - the only file manager that does not suck. Actually, it rocks!
automatically hides the empty USB card reader
Hello, Nikos,
I hope X2 can automatically hides the empty USB drives (card reader) on the drive bar and shows the drive name as a card was inserted. I know there are some software to such things, but it is better not to install a software just for this.
Thanks.

user commands and miniscrap
Bought X2 few months ago and find it a useful and streamlined program. Using it in XP.
I customized mine with a launchbar for applications, by setting up user commands (usually by selecting .exe file, then Customize | User Commands | Add Current) and adding them to a new toolbar. Until I found the advanced option about "custom menu items" I couldn't understand why I couldn't add more user commands! Possible improvements:
I customized mine with a launchbar for applications, by setting up user commands (usually by selecting .exe file, then Customize | User Commands | Add Current) and adding them to a new toolbar. Until I found the advanced option about "custom menu items" I couldn't understand why I couldn't add more user commands! Possible improvements:
- 1) More obvious to new users about the setting which restricts number of user commands.
2) I think this one has been mentioned already. Ability to select icon when adding user command, rather than needing a second step in the Organize dialogue.
3) Option to omit "User commands" prefix in popup descriptions, which clutters the visual effect, at least for me. Because yes, I know they're all user commands since I was the one who made the custom toolbar
4) I would especially value this one. Option for a user command to not be tied to the path where the X2 window was currently focused. If X2 is browsing a removable or virtual drive, and then I click on one of my launchbar icons (browser, word processor, pdf reader, audio editor, whatever) it very often happens that the launched application will get a lock on that path which later prevents the drive from being unmounted. Usually I don't discover this until needing to unplug the drive, and it may be quite inconvenient to close the application which never even opened a file there. On the other hand, if X2 has the file lock, I can close and restart; tabs/panes are restored but history in them is lost.
5) This is a rough idea that others might be able to improve upon. Sometimes I want to launch an application with a different parameter than normal, which I'd worked out in the past for a particular need. What if more than one variant could be defined for a user command; the variants could be labeled with the actual syntax or description label (or both). An example: "browser.exe -x for changing profile" or "game.exe -x for getting around LAN issue". Then on the toolbar one could click the icon to launch the default variant, or ctrl-click to get a submenu with all variants and choose the desired one. I don't know if this would be too complicated to also work when using the drag/release method to launch specific files on the application icon?
- 6) Miniscrap displays all items in the list (according to last manual or autosave state) but X2 does not try to refresh any item unless you main-click or context-click on that item. Or maybe there could be a gray color to indicate the label/icon is a cached copy from last session, and an item doesn't change to black until you click on an it and X2 successfully accesses it.
