blog: how search works in xplorer2 v2.2

I see some crashes while searching.
I mean "normal search" not strictly related to this topic
Maybe due to the fact that by default the "preview" window in the "find" window is enabled, so if the search gives no result the program crashes.
Try searchin so that you will have no result.
When the preview windows is (finally) closed there is no problem at all.
Can you see if you can replicate this behaviour?

If you don't see that message, it means WDS (Windows Search) did not find anything, and x2's normal Robust Search automatically kicked in, so the results you see are actually from that (thus no need to display the message). The "view mode" is not relevant. You can use Tools -> Search Status (in the scrap pane) after a search completes to check what was actually searched for and where, if you have your doubts.
There are any number of reasons why WDS may not return any results, from the area you're searching not being indexed, or the drive not being a "local" fixed disc, and so on. There is a setting in the advanced settings editor to completely disable WDS, but you would have had to specifically set that yourself - default is for WDS to be active. You may check the current Windows' Indexing settings by typing "index" into the start menu, and clicking "Indexing Options".

Nikos is somewhat busy dealing with nature's human reproductive cycle at the moment , so I'll posit an opinion: In the same way as the Lite version still has Pro features visible (but unavailable), the same applies here - it's a subtle salesman's idea to trick people into thinking they're "missing out" on something. Also, it serves as suggestion for those in doubt to "try the free trial and see for themselves".CrossX wrote:By the way... (and I am asking nikos)...
A more honest approach would indeed be to hide it - after all, the Pro version is not freeware, so such things should be customisably hidden. (You could do this yourself by editing the resources, but that's a little extreme for such a minor detail. Were I a Pro-only user, I would rant and rave until the cows came home, but that's me. )
nikos (happy father) says: that command is a small advertisement for the ultimate version like kilmatead gathered. It prints a discreet message on the statusbar
v2.2 was really to put some substance to the difference from pro->ultimate. From now on there won't be any big differences in future versions. Pro version is very much alive and developed

Contrasted back to September 2nd of 2009, where Nikos opined in simpler times...nikos wrote:nikos (happy father) says...
It would appear "she who must be obeyed" saw the point of it, even if you didn't. Congratulations, and all that jazz. In fact, jazz is the only "free" thing you got left in your life from now on. :roll:nikos wrote:i'm getting married soonish (in a week) and i neither look forward to it nor to the offspring that will no doubt follow... just to clarify there's no problem with "love" if you can call that after 4 years living together, i just don't see the point of getting the official stamp of approval!
