For anyone using the last beta version of 7zNSE (1006), this release is 1007 which includes an important fix for an ISO-files bug which Nikos continually denied the existence of like an unwanted pregnancy.

He has yet to learn that changelog files are actually there to - you know - log actual programme changes... (that includes minutia, oh Grand Poobah...)

Hey Nikos,

Doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.1/x64 :(
Neither 3.0.0.2 ULT [Unicode] x64 nor Explorer are able to use it to open .7z: file handler chooser dialog is presented instead, like if the association with .7z is gone. :(
I'm using Xplorer2 - the only file manager that does not suck. Actually, it rocks!

I'm a non-admin user, if this matters.

Did the icons for those filetypes change in x2 (or explorer) to the ugly one in the picture? And, more importantly, did you restart x2, et al (explorer.exe), after setting filetypes in the 7zNSE dialog? How about a full system restart?

What is the default value in the registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.7z ?

If it is not "SevenZipFolder" (REG_SZ) double-click the value and set it to that, then restart x2 using <Alt+X>

The icon is definitely not what 7-zip NSE shows.

Then it appears the DLL was not registered properly. Run the setup file again (as admin).

Same result.

BTW, I AM running it as an admin - otherwise it's impossible for it to write under C:\Program Files\zabkat\Browsable Compressed Archives NSE

Curious. Have you tried registering the DLL manually? Open an elevated command prompt within the installation folder and type "regsvr32 SevenZipFolder"

If that doesn't do it, then something very odd is (not) happening.

Nope. :( Regsvr32 is successful. This is how my Explorer behaves:

I also logged off/on before that (assuming that registration during the installation didn't propagate properly) - that didn't help either.

I'm at a loss - I just tried this on Win10 and it worked as expected. It's almost as if it's not actually registering properly despite what it says.

What do the contents of the reg key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SevenZipFolder

look like? Note that this is HKLM not HKCU as before. This key is created when the dll is registered.

the first time I installed 7zNSE I got the open with dialog when I double-clicked on each file type... I chose ExplorerFrame and it opened in WE the first time... after that x2 could browse the selected archives just like zips...

I'm using Windows 8.1 Home Premium x64

Yep, that worked. But it's definitely not what I'd expect. Microsoft's ZIP doesn't behave like this on the first run.

BTW, password protected archives seem to be not supported.

In either case - awesome stuff! Thanks a lot! :)

well 7zNSE is still in beta after all... I'm sure there some registration bs that is still required... maybe specific to Windows 8/8.1 since they have to deal with Metro/Modern apps...

the installer does warn you that "you must restart your explorer" to have this working. This is not something that will be "fixed" if it goes out of beta
