Toolbar - Label Size

Post by soonerlater »

Is there a way to display longer (more characters) text labels on the toolbar?

Image

My folder names are longer than what show on the toolbar.

If I was using the Ribbon (which I can't find how to re-enable just to see) would the behavior be different?

If lengthening the name on the toolbar isn't possible, is there a way to set a single hotkey (can be a "chorded" hotkey, like shft-alt-Z) to go straight to Customize\Folder Groups?

Tools -> Advanced Options -> Layout Settings (Tab) -> Max Button Width

Set it to something quite high, like 150, so the label-text may extend beyond the borders of the icon itself. The default is 64.

You won't get the same "context menu"-type dropdown list as the menu gives you, however you can access the "More..." item (which is really just the complete list in a dialog-box where you double-click the one you want):

Customise -> Keyboard -> (Category) "Customise" -> "Folder Groups > More"

...and assign it any keyboard-shortcut you want. Alternatively, you can take that same menu item and turn it into a User-Command which may then be used as a Toolbar-Button (so you would need only 1 button on a toolbar, instead of the 8 you have now):

> MenuHack.exe 33042

And (just for completeness), to re-enable the Ribbon display, use View -> Ribbon (but no, the behaviour wouldn't really be any different than the menu dropdown itself, as you can't customise ribbon items, only toolbars).

another possibility is to make the toolbar font a bit smaller. This advanced option is right next to the toolbar button width mentioned by kilmatead above. While you are at it, right click on your addressbar (next to the button icon) and tick OFF the small icons menu, which will give you more space for path display

folder groups are also available if you right click to the rightmost edge of the tab strip (useful when you have the ribbon UI enabled)
