omfg make it stop defaulting to thumbnail view! Driving me NUTS!

Post by richardk »

My brand new installation of xplorer2 on a brand new Win 7 installation keeps defaulting to thumbnail view no matter what I do. I deleted EVERY desktop.ini file on the whole computer. I don't see how even one person would ever want to use this program when it keeps doing that. I have had this problem on and off for close to TEN YEARS and usually I just did Actions > Folder Settings > Save for many hundreds of folders (thousands when you include Apply to Subfolders) but now it has gone completely bonkers and is defaulting to thumbnails 95% of the time.

(close x2 by file > exit (to close ALL open windows and transfers))

start x2 with one window open

create your perfect set up (don't spend too long - just to test maybe just do step 1 & 3)

1) dual pane or single pane
set the view mode in both panes - that you wish to use from now on

2) set up other features (colour coding, toolbar etc)

3)
Actions Menu > save settings now
close x2 (File > Exit)
open x2

try out a few folders. any help?

(if you have any desktop.ini files, obviously these will change THAT particular folder - you will have to use Actions > Folder Settings > Clear if a particular folder has another View saved in .ini file)

www.zabkat.com/blog/settings-headaches.htm
you may need a more recent version for some of the features

Is it OK to delete the desktop.ini files in the pictures? There are 164 of them in folders that I never have or will need to view, except that I wouldn't want to mess up the Desktop or Start Menu which account for around a dozen of them.

you can do a file search for files named DESKTOP.INI that include the text

Code: Select all

x2PaneStyle
that means that they were probably created by you and you can delete them
