Quick Filter Field String Shown on per Tab basis

Post by pj »

A feature request:

Can the string used to filter a tab be displayed for the currently active tab?

I generally have a dozen or so tabs open at any time in two panes. I'll apply a filter to a tab, move to other tabs, possibly applying a quick filter to other tabs, usually a different string. It might be a while before I return to the original tab. It would be very helpful if, when that a tab becomes the active tab, the string the quick filter applied was then shown in the quick filter input box. That way it could be updated, modified, or just a reminder of what I was looking for in that tab.

So that would mean each tab's quick filter string, if any, would have to be saved and displayed as tabs became active.

Please don't hesitate to ask for clarification.

Appreciate your consideration.

then it would be difficult to apply the same filter to another tab
in general I want to leave the quick filter plain and simple, for more exact control please use a regular filter e.g.. ALT+H

I can always duplicate a filter by selecting the filter string in the box (ctrl-a), selecting the tab to filter then pasting the string back into the box (ctrl-c).

What's missing is the indication of the filter is applied. Regular filters don't provide that information either that I'm aware of, nor, to the best of my knowledge in x2, there is no way to determine what the filter is for a given tab. Perhaps you can help me understand if there is a way to get that.

Perhaps a drop down history of the multi-function box would be a help, like is available on the address box.

My typical usage is to be using different filters because I have different types of data in different tabs. One might hold all the serviceable tags I've created and I need to filter on tags for just one part number. Another might have all the SCARs I've written and I need to filter on a company. Those look-ups happen daily for me.

I suppose you can tell the filter from the results :)
also if you need a reminder, ALT+H is going to show you the active filter in each tab

Just tried Alt-H and didn't get that result.

I have a quick filter of ".s" applied to a tab, selected the tab, pressed Alt-H and the word "evolution" was in the Named field.

What did I do wrong?

what I meant is if you use ALT_H filters throughout then you can see which filter is in force
there's no communication between quick filters and ALT-H filters

OK, I see that works using alt-H.

Could communication be set up between alt-H filtering and quick filtering?
