to have your settings changes stick in scrap windows you must make sure there is at least one item shown when you close the window

Also, once the scrap window's own Tools -> Options -> Window -> Infotips for items setting has been disabled, do not immediately close the scrap window itself, instead re-focus the main x2 window and manually use its Actions -> Save Settings Now. Then you can close the scrap and thusly, it should "stick".

I've had to use the above method in scrap windows for donkeys' years - not sure why it's necessary, but it works.

it works for me as advertised but keep in mind that certain view properties like infotips are controlled separately for each window, so if you set the main window not to have infotips, the scrap window won't follow. You must use TOOLS > OPTIONS in the scrap window to change this kind of setting

Not saying you're wrong, but I can imagine you sitting there at a parent-teacher conference shrugging your shoulders and saying to the principal, "Well, young Achilles doesn't set fires when he's at home, so I don't know what you're feeding him here!"

Parents are often not the best judges of their own children's behaviour.

Just sayin' the saving routines can be a tad "quirky" sometimes.

Hence one of the reasons I keep auto-save settings off, never go anywhere near the stay-resident stuff, and have found that arrangement the most predictably reliable. If I could point my finger at a particular anomaly, you'd be the first to hear about it (repeatedly!). :D
