but good products don't sell - only well-marketed products sell
so true yet so sad fact, especially in the 3rd millenium
any sh*te will sell as long as it has some spin on it

that's how UK chart music has been reduced to spotty kids that can just hop a lot with fancy clothes and no music sense whatsoever :)

Well, don't isolate this annoyance to our millennium. The underlying 'problem' here is a part of us humans and has always been true. It just stands out in the 3rd millennium since our standard of living is (relatively) so high, enabling so much commerce to take place every day, and more importantly, we buy so many luxury items due to our high level of wealth.

Most people don't take all that much time researching (or even learning about or learning how to use!) most things they buy, since the cost of doing so is usually much higher than the perceived benefits. Finding that one awesome piece of software (*ahem* *cough* xplorer2? *cough*) could take hours, when something that you know about and looks decent is more than worth a measly $25.

Information is power.

what about Will Young though?
surely he should be banished down some deep gorge rather than given cheesy songs to sing?

that's what spin does to you!
i'm booking his agent as we speak :D

Well, I don't even know who Will Young is - probably because I'm in the US. However, I usually don't even hear/notice the lame musicians around here - but then again, I don't watch TV or listen to the radio much, so I guess its easy for me to avoid them..

And I'm sure some people actually like Young's cheesy songs... And they should probably be banished down some deep gorge too! heh...

I'd like to request a variant of this idea... I'd like to have it so that if I try to open a new xplorer2 I get a new tab in an existing instance instead.  What's more if I try to run xplorer2 again with some folder passed as its argument, I'd like that to be the folder that opens in the new tab.  Not essential, but I think this would be very handy (especially for explorer integration).

And of course, I also think Will Young should be banished
