Before giving up as totally stumped  , I have a few more questions, that I am not clear about:

Does the regular MS Explorer show the thumbnails OK for all?

Are there differences in folder sizes when the images do/not show proper thumbnails?

Are there especially large numbers of files in the folders?

Did we eliminate the possibility that it may be a latency issue?
(i.e. waiting longer for refresh to complete in large folders or for background operations to complete on a computer "busy" with other ongoing processes)

This is the first indication the problem is larger than just xplorer2.

Images that don't display in xplorer2 don't display in Windows Explorer thumbnail view either. I don't believe I ever used Windows Explorer to view this folder.

Also, if I resave the images so they do display, the folder's "Size" shrinks slightly while the "Size on Disk" remains the same. The Windows Explorer properties sheet also shows a image size of 0 x 0 pixels before resaving.

There are a large number of images in the folder but I don't think there is a latency problem. When I load the folder, I briefly see the icon for my default image program before the actual image appears. With the images that don't display, I don't see that icon, just a blank image.

I think I can now conclude that the problem is (as usual) with Windows and I see no purpose in continuing this thread.

Thanks for all you effort in investigating this problem.
