I do 3D graphics for a living, and though I agree 3gigs of RAM is enough for most purposes, it is nowhere near enough for most of the stuff we do: Keeping a copy of Photoshop, another of Nuke, yet another of Maya open for easy switching/tuning the output, a couple of test renders chugging along in the background (low priority, of course) together can eat up a lot of RAM (some heavy scenes, even after optimisation, can gobble up around 4-6 gigs while rendering). So yes, x64 is a Good Thing, at least for me. x86 with the 3GB (total) ceiling is nowhere near enough.
x64 is better for 32bit programs too: it means they can access up to 3GB each, without having to share it with every other program and the OS, like it would have had to do on x86.
