Simple request: In the robust Copy and Move dialogs, when attempting to copy / move items listed in a scrap container, please add the folders of the tabs presently open in xplorer2 to the list of folders presented in the "Here" drop down field.

Thirded!

Also, a similar mechanism in OmniFinder would be good to have (just add all tabs to the "Special folders" pulldown.)

An extension of that idea: Provide a check box "all tabs", which searches in all tabs loaded in both (acrtive+inactive) folder panes.

Some people may want to search only in all tabs of the active pane; but NOT the inactive pane (to avoid expanding the scope of search too much).

So the special folders pull down menu should have-

All tabs (active pane only)
All tabs (both panes)

Hope its not too late to get my 2 cents in...

- Resizing the xplorer window resizes all panes. It would be nice if it only resized the folder panes (like in windows explorer)

- In most applications that use tabs the active tab is brighter then the inactive tabs however this is reversed in xplorer.

- It would be nice if we could export partial settings (like in the visual studio setting exporter). For example this would allow a user to transfer their user commands between two computers without also transferring their browsing history.

- Drag drop tabs between panes. Or at least be able to assign a hot key to the "Move across" action.

- Standard forward/back navigation.....please

- In my opinion the inactive pane background colour and filtered pane background colour should override a colour scheme's background colour.

- Editing/creating custom groups can be a little confusing for new users as it is quite different from editing/creating anything else in the customize menu.

- It would be nice if the scrap pane could be empty when Xplorer launches.

- If "slow double-click to rename" is on and you double click an exe that doesn't take focus immediately then xplorer will think you are trying to rename it. Also if you click an item in a folder pane then give another window focus, then give xplorer focus by clicking the same item, it will again think you are trying to rename the item. Both of these issues do not occur in windows explorer.

- If you drag drop something into the folder it is already in then there is an error message which is not necessary in my opinion (you don't get an error message in windows explorer).

I don't mean to come off overly negative here. I could make a much bigger list of things I like about xplorer. Thanks Nikos for all your hard work!!!

In robust transfer, we have to be careful to select the "Rename target" option in advance.

If we have not taken that precaution, we are stuck: When x2 finds a name conflict, it allows us to select from yes, yes to all, cancel, no, and no to all.

This lack of choice is not good when we have already transferred a large  number of items already. (It makes sense if x2 warns in advance before transferring anything).

Please add rename and rename all options also.

QuickViewer pane should have display options:
* Zoom slider,
* Fit to window,
* Actual size (reset)

A grid-pattern background for graphics with transparency would also be helpful.

Here you go...
EDIT2: Icon set moved to "icon help" thread.

EDIT:  I'm working on a "classic" hi-rez set, for people that don't like
my homespun designs (above), even though they are CLEARLY superior
in every way.  Anyway, if anyone owns a copy of DrawPlus X4 and would
like to co-author the classic set, please send me a PM.  I have about half
of the set done (many of the icon designs in the above set are actually
rebuilds of the classic set that comes with x2).  I'll keep working on it...
But I'm not feeling terribly ambitious about it.

Comments on Folders and Files

x2 provides this via Ctrl/Z, but it is inconsistent in where the comments are actually stored
  • On folders they are stored in desktop.ini files
  • On most files they are stored in an Alternate Data Stream named SummaryInformation
  • On jpeg files at least, and maybe others, they are put into the MS WIC Comments field (I think that's Tag-ID 9C9C).
Can xplorer2 be given an option to always store comments in an Alternate Data Stream, irrespective of whether its a folder or a file, and irrespective of the file type.

Options->Show Hidden files and folder

Would it be possible to split this option into two items one for folders the other for files.

Then I could hide those pesky desktop.ini, someprogram.ini, thumbs.db etc, but still be able to see hidden folders like AppData & Cookies etc.

Via regedit would be OK for me.

+1, but not like that. I still want to see hidden/system files, just not the standard ones, so a global filter list would be nice- there we could specify name patters for common files like desktop.ini, thumbs.db, or whatever we would not like to see.

xplorer2 doesn't choose where to store comments, it relies on windows. ADS isn't very convenient as comments will be lost if you put them on a USB stick
