I got knowledge of Xplorer² by a user of my FrameMaker toolbars who needed support by a shared session (using TeamViewer). Having seen the tool there I decided to switch from PowerDesk Pro to Xplorer².
Immediate benefits:
- Support feels much more responsive (both e-mail and forum)
- Development is more dynamic (PD last update 9.0.1.10 was nov-2013)
- Restore position/size of app window: much more reliable
- Help file is more comprehensive: 450 pages A4 vs 360 pages <A5
- FTP: seems to be standard Windows function
- Separate pane for tree view
- Tabbed panes (great!)
- Set file/folder date/time => Actions > Change Attributes
- Copy names to Clipboard (SendTo toys) => ALT+C
- Create self extracting ZIP => use 7zip utility
- Favourites => shortcuts in Mini scrap]
- ZIP function as a command/button
- Use QuickView as previewer
- Edit with EditPad => F4 (set up in Tools > Options)
- Keep the function of DialogHelper when uninstalling PowerDesk!

(no $F appended, otherwise a file $F will also be opened)

It turns out theat the QVP Standard (USD 49.-) has no capability to be run from command line
For this the Professional Edition (USD 495.-) must be purchased
=> An AHK script solves the problem (some quirks left) - see my other post
