I am a laggard in general and especially so in mobile phones (I still have a 5 year old java phone )
the other day we were travelling by car and "I had an idea" about a phone app that would use crowd-sourcing to reveal police speed traps on the road. Of course had I had a modern phone I would have known that a million apps like that already exist. Sadly the most popular of them seems to be dead duck

now one of these days my son will manage to destroy my old phone (it's amazing that he hits it all the time on the floor to open the battery case -- what fun -- but it still works! ) and I may get a "modern" one
what kind of mobile software do you use? Anything useful? Please share it!
ps for traffic stuff in general this looks good (owned by google) http://waze.com/

Re: cool mobile apps
no wonder nobody replied because as it seems other than map tools like this there's nothing else worth mentioning
