Nikos is donating this one to the universe (for free), for users of any and all file-managers (including Windows Explorer). He reckons it'll help stack the odds towards all those virgins you're supposed to get when you die doing selfless deeds. Little does he know of the Great Smirk of Allah that awaits all those who try too hard to thread themselves through the proverbial needle's eye.

And this is not meant to substitute any archivers (it is, after all, read-only) - and 7Zip itself does not offer this functionality - it's meant to complement them as part of your browsing experience. Like chocolate cake and coffee in a bookstore. Or, it would be, if anyone still remembered such things as bookstores.

Nor does it interfere with any archiver's own shell extensions - their right-click menus are still available just as they always were. For example, I don't use 7Zip - you'll have to prise WinRAR from my cold dead hand), and nor does this install it - it merely makes use of the common distributed 7Zip DLL (i.e., there is no need to install 7Zip).

Anyway, like all men of blind will and aspiration, it's free to wander on the wind wherever it may - to fall, to rise, or merely to sway.

this thing is a general "plugin" for all shell-aware file managers. It is not just for xplorer2 and deskrule. As most of the parts I used were developed by others, I opted to give it away for free -- although I did put in a month's worth of my labour to turn it into a working mix. Workers of the world unite!

Thanks guy's I probably wont use it, but I know some folks who might. They were always complaining that they couldn't drill down into rars and 7z's in their file managers, I assume they still are.

Where will they go to get it ? Added - founnd the blog post

7zNSE is an awful name - how about something like SeeYourArchs - or Archie

nikos will you be accepting donations for it.

I imagine that Nikos, being the selfless Gandhi-esque figure in a loincloth that he is, will greedily accept any and all donations, rocks, obeisances, eggs, and salutations that people may be inspired to throw at him.

nikos, this may interest you - a Greek company that employs about twice as many people today as it did in 2008. They got a direct loan from the EIB (ie no involvement from Greek govt, BoG, or Greek Commercial banks). From what I understand it operates much like a German Mittelstand company. Nice web site too Pharmathen - hint, hint

donations don't work unless something is of gargantuan popularity. Whoever is inclined to charity can purchase an extra xplorer2 license :)

Can't say that makes sense... no wonder you keep doing those awful BitsdeJour rip-off (for developers) promotions. This sort of thing works better for your own side (traffic, if nothing else) - being a practical, related product, with no scabby third-parties sticking their nose in claiming half for providing little more than a link. Since this will inevitably be used by people who have no interest in x2 itself, suggesting they buy a licence is nonsensical, whereas letting them "nickel and dime you to death" (in reverse) covers your "month's worth of labour", without anything but a slight involuntary donation to Elon Musk's empire.

If you're so rich you don't need an extra fiver or tenner here or there, then rocks and eggs it is! Plenty of them around to throw. :D

For example...

Egg: "Why are you wasting time on this instead of fixing bug <x> in x2?"
Rock: "Why are you wasting time on this instead of considering suggestion <y> for x2?"
Egg: "Waddyamean this can be used with other file-managers, what about x2 exclusives?"
Rock: "Can this thing give me back my MTV? They broke it about 15 years ago and it's been sucky ever since."

When Javert said, "It's a pity the law doesn't allow me to be merciful", he was rather intimating that internet commerce has no tolerance for a sentimental age, so your lefty-righty-commie-socialist agenda won't play here on the interwebs! You are obligated to compete for bread!

Or, at least, that's what my copy says. :D

You know me, I just like being the voice of the great-unwashed from time to time, to stir up a little joy in an otherwise rainy day. (Either that, or it's my purpose in life to derail this thread in particular, come hell, high water, or the Moderator's Dilemma itself.)

Besides, you so rarely show such munificence and prodigality that the cut-throats of the world might begin to think you're abandoning them! And then who would I have to poke fun at? :D You do have an image to protect, you know. You mean to say that the Aristotle quote on the website was not from Aristotle Onassis? Do not disillusion poor Prisoner 24601, he would know a magnate from a million miles away.

Why would someone buy a license for something they don't use and will never use. It's not as though X2 is de rigeur, even with its regular gigs at BitsdeJour; maybe you should try the Folies Bergère.

Never mind, reading the latest blog post makes me wonder if its going to work anyway?

It works perfectly now (aside from the usual caveats and beta-esque issues) - it's just that Win8+ is making what should be a simple integration (as on Win7) a little "less simple"... but not impossible by any means.

Even the highly unpopular Tuxman is able to gather donations for his various open source projects. Is it your nationality?

You know that drum-snare sound you get when someone drops a deadpan joke and the room is silent? Google is not cooperating at the moment as it refuses to tell me if that particular sound has a name or not, so perhaps it shall be henceforth known as "a Tuxman"? Would such a downbeat homage cheer you up?

I heard that sound a couple of times in my life, here in Germany we use the "ba-dum-tss" onomatopoeia in order to describe it. But I am rather unpopular. :|
