Sometimes oddity in file details window

Sometimes (I can't see anything that triggers it or for that matter what stops it) the file detail window will scroll if the selected item is not visible.

Let me give and example, imagine there are more items in the file detail window than can be displayed (so a scroll bar appears), I want to select more items than can be displayed but not all items and the items to be selected are contiguous. I select an item while holding down shift then drag the button on the scroll bar to display the last item I want to select. Some time the file window will sit there quite happy and sometimes it will scroll to display the first item selected. I don't think it's options because sometimes I'll just find a work around and then next time I try, it will work as expected.

I'm running 3.1.0.1 [Ansi] LITE 18/12/2015 on Win 7 ultimate.

could it be that there's activity in the folder in question so some items are refreshed while you do the selection?
