File is not unselected after selecting another file/files

Here is my issue, which just started recently: 1) I select a file by clicking once (any file will do); 2) I select a different file (again, any file will do); 3) the first file I selected remains selected after selecting the second file - this will continue as long as I keep selecting files.
Here is what I have tried so far: Updated to 3.2.0.2 - no change
My environment: Win 7, 64 bit; under Tools->Options->Window, Single click activation is unselected, Allow slow double-click to rename items is unselected. Keep in mind I did not change any of these options prior to the issue appearing. Actually I have never changed any options.
Notes: If i navigate away from the current folder with its many selected files, then return to the folder, no files are selected. Ctrl-click will select and unselect files, as expected. If I have selected multiple files and opt to copy/move them to another folder, Xplorer2 behaves as if they were indeed all selected. In other words, it's not just a display issue - they are actually selected.
Is there an option I have missed which would cause this behavior?
Is this a bug?
Thanks
