Feature request: robust copy/move with checksum verification

Post by ptorrf »

Hi Nikos and friends!

I'd like to ask you if it'd be possible to add a checksum verification while doing robust operations (copy/move).

Recently I had to move large files between disks and I had to be sure the contens had been copied/moved correctly, so I used an external checksum aplication (e.g. MultiHasher); but it's really boring and time consuming, for I had to calculate the checksums twice (one for the source file and another one for the copied/moved file), and then compare them.

I've been searching for apps like TeraCopy and then I found a little app called FastCopy (https://ipmsg.org/tools/fastcopy.html.en) which integrates a verify/checksum function. Very useful and very fast, indeed! It's free software (GNU GPLv3) so its source code it's accesible.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance.

I had looked into this before but decided that the windows copy engine is so reliable that there wouldn't be any point re-checking its operations. If you want to be 100% certain, you can do a ACTIONS > Compare Subfolders menu command after the copy then chose synchronization by content. That's going to take a long time but you will be assured!
