xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
I am hearing people can't run xplorer² on the latest beta version of windows 11 (Build 25174)... always a risk with people living on the edge
If you have the same problem will you please report it to microsoft? I'm sure whatever it is will get fixed eventually

I’ve been running x2 on Windows 11 Insider for a while and it worked relatively well.

Re: xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
do you have this build 25174 or something older or newer?
it's a silly little change they did with shell icons, I'm sure it will be fixed but I may release an interim patch for xplorer2 because so many people noticed

It is slightly older: 22622.575 - updated today though - maybe I don't get all builds? Hmm.

Re: xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
25xxx builds are Windows Insider Dev builds. If you're on Beta channel, you *should* be on 22xxx builds, and same for Release Preview builds (sometimes Beta and RP align, as when a Beta build is released directly to RP without a version bump).
I have all three types of Insiders builds in VMs, I've just never installed Xplorer² in any of them. I'm pretty tied up for work, but might be able to test and see if it breaks or not.
Current versions of all three types can be found easily from the 11forum site - https://www.elevenforum.com/news/ - Just look for the tagged icons (Green Dev, Blue Beta and Yellow Release Preview). They also append the date of release and keep the most recent release pinned.

Re: xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
@Nikos - definitely does not run. There is a tone as if some sort of error message *should* be appearing but it never actually appears.
Anything you want from the run attempt? Would there be any sort of log that might help, or have you ascertained that this is indeed only a Microsoft problem and nothing that you can / need to do about it?

Re: xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
I know it doesn't run and why it does so, thanks to other feedback
it is a silly change MS did for one function that retrieves item icons by wildcard e.g. *.txt
I hope it will be fixed in a subsequent release, or I will have to do a cumbersome patch
please report it to them using your feedback app
thanks

Re: xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
the good news is that in the developer channel, a later release 25188 fixed the problem
the bad news is that the same bug resurfaced in a "beta" insider preview 22622
just keep reporting the problem to MS and they should sort it out

Re: xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
I have released an interim patch for this problem since it won't go away of itself anytime soon
if your xplorer2 cannot run please download build 5203 from the website:

Re: xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
New build released today - let me see if it actually got fixed (I have my doubts) and if not I'll try the new build.
Edition Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview
Version 22H2
Installed on 01-Sep-22
OS build 25193.1000
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.25193.1000.0
Uh, it's working in this build, I'm actually surprised.
Xplorer² Version 5.2.0.1 ULT x64 15-May-22 in the above build on a VM. It actually opened for me after going through the normal first time install routine (showing tips and then asking for Ribbon or other style menu system).

Re: xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
I heard it was fixed for developer builds but it has reappeared in insider builds like 22622
Re: xplorer2 for windows 11 Build 25174
Lol. OK, then, I have 3 VMs, one corresponding to each build type - Dev, Beta and Release Preview (RP).
I'll install Xplorer² in the other 2 and see if there are issues. I'll report back and and make the relevant reports with the M$ Feedback app.
