is that how you consider using it? with or without the tree?
Agreed with the rest - I don't bother with trees. It's why I have tabs in the first place, and favorites.....otherwise clicking through to get where I need is relatively easy enough, trees actually make it more cumbersome.

As for your idea that it wold be an insult to his legacy, I daresay that, if I *ever* contributed something to help users make better use of a product, and then the product dev incorporated my contributions into a newer version, I'd be *honored*. But, at the same time, I don't see you making excuses here @Nikos - you stated a real feeling you had.

Here's an idea, though - as with all new versions and especially new features, you always make a blog post - so if you were to incorporate any of those features / workarounds / enhancements by either of them, you could easily point to the threads / posts where the contributions currently live, and that will be the direct honoring of either contributor.

Mostly retired though - being an adult eats so much time ... :)

I second the recommendation to check Google's console for hints.

I think that would be interesting and useful. Would it be similar to the Drive toolbar button (Select Drive on Go to menu)?

I would prefer a full row, more intuitive and easier to use.

Hi Nikos

How did you trap the mouse buttons for the sneek-peek combination?
could this be extended to other mouse combinations?

Nope, I was never able to get the macro to work ... Not a coder/prorgammer.

I feel you could easily write the code which I have struggled with off and on for months.

If you want to encourage people to upgrade from the free version, you could build a library of useful macros which people can access once they have paid (I forget if This forum is only accessible to owners).

You could then list the macros on the main website as possible benefits for upgrading.

Users are looking for SOLUTIONS not to have to become programmers;
You could look through past user requests for help, and convert them into 'case studies', then list them publically as "how to ...xxx" and provide the detailed answer for people who have purchased.

Years ago I wanted to use xplorer2 to make a yearly archive of all new files in the last 12 months, and to store the archive in the same folder structure as the originals. The answer was to use Structured-scrap-clips, but there were problems with Zip files viewtopic.php?t=10516.

In the years since, I have seen at least one forum post asking the same sort of query so there may be scores of people seeking the same answer, which you could prepackage for them as an incentive to buy.

what do you think?

The xplorer² online help is relatively good with explaining macros, see x2help.htm#pr_macro in your installation. :)

Yes, xplorer2 is really powerful. But I find that getting access to much of that power needs me to learn/fiddle with stuff. It is great that macros can do so much, but if you are self taught then 'you' don't know what you don't know.
A Library of macros and or case studies of solved problems would help.
The forum support is also very welcome, yet, again, it can be hard work.

The answer may be simple if you already know how, but very difficult if you do not.
Learning is interesting, but often you need to get on with the work.

In the end, it is up to Nikos anyway :-)

use CUSTOMIZE > MACROS > EDIT MACRO menu command and copy/paste the following "code"

Code: Select all

ERRORSTOP 0
findframe preview
jumpok floating
FINDWND preview
cmenu float
exit
label floating
cmenu dock
this macro toggles the dock/float mode. You can SAVE it and then you can assign a key to it

Currently your drive bar hack will select the opposite Pane if the relevant pane isn't highlighted first. Could you please make the drive bar Pane specific so that if one clicks on the drive bar first (without highlighting Pane) it will affect its corresponding Pane only.

sorry that's not possible with this hack. You can press ALT key while clicking if the respective pane isn't active

Just to clear things up, I wasn't asking for the hack to be fixed, but if you implement a proper version to make it work as above.

Thanks.

I guess I came to the party late. I'll try anyway in case any of my suggestions are easy or intrigue you.

Xplorer² Suggestions.
Show the name of an applied filter in the status bar.
(I change the screen to mint green to know when a filter is applied, but sometimes need to be reminded which filter it was.)
In the Status bar –> Selection information, show a total and breakdown by numbers of folders and files of the item count for the displayed folder.
In the Status bar –> Active item information, when a folder is selected show the folder’s size
In the lower right corner of the status bar there are two empty boxes you can click on to change whether a filter is active or hidden files are shown. I think they could use some sort of indication (grayed out icons) that they do anything. It took me a while to discover and I still forget they are there.
I would like the xplorer² sub-menu to show up when I right-click in empty space in a folder. It only shows up now when I have something selected. You could have the Color tag submenu grayed out or hide it.
Since xplorer² creates it’s own little right-click menu group (xplorer² and Color tag), I would like an option to have a command in the submenu listed higher up in the group outside the submenu for quicker access.
With NO folder selected, Browse flat should flatten the open folder already displayed.
