Post by nikos »

unless you find any bugs, this should be the last beta before v5,4 is released
here's the download link:

I have not run into any problems using the betas so far. The only place I am using some non stock columns is in a couple of layouts that display video frame widths and heights, length and data rates. The beta does not seem any faster displaying that info.

the changelog you have linked on that "the major new features are explained here" page is for [5.3.0.1] 29 Dec 22 so it has no info on the changes in the new beta. The link to the changelog in below the picture showing the focused dialog "Other improvements of note include: (see the changelog for the full list of changes)"

shell properties aren't faster to begin with, but once xplorer2 extracts them they are cached
so if you change the sort or filter then show again all items, you will see a big difference

Ahh. Cached. Makes more sense now.

I'm installing the (latest) beta today, but I don't foresee any real problem with it.

I thought I had read something about caching shell properties. I am not really seeing that with the video properties I mentioned above. When I open a detailed view in a folder with several videos the columns are displayed slowly every time I go to that folder. If there is caching going on I would expect that if I back out of the folder and then go back to it the columns would fill quicker but I am not seeing that.

Do I need to enable the caching?

to see the difference, run the old version side by side and start filtering and sorting by different (slow) columns
