Hmm....I decided to try setting up different layouts. For some reason, I can not get them to work quite right. I browsed to i:\ in one pane and h:\ in the other. Saved the layout as ACAD Drawings. When I do the layout I get strange results.
Fer instance. With the panes being i:\ and h:\ and I click "startup" (c:\ and j:\) x2 does I:\10 in FAS and j:\
From there I click ACAD Drawings and I get I:\10 in FAS\10_PROBE and h:\
From there I click "startup" and I get I:\10 in FAS\10_PROBE and j:\

layouts don't have much to do with folders, just the pane size and arrangement (toolbars too)
when you use a "layout" it is like cloning from that registry key
if you have some folder selected at the time that would be browsed like as if you hit <ctrl+enter>, using the pane arrangement stored in the layout
so e.g. if you want to see your pictures folder with a big previewer, clone the layout before entering it; or rather hilight the "pic" folder and then use Window | SomeLayout to open it
not as clean as 2x admitedly but it has its merits
