mp3 infotips not showing

When I hover over an mp3 in Windows explorer I see the following fields displayed: Artist, Album Title, Year, Track Number, Duration, Type, Bit Rate, Size.

When I hover over the same mp3 file in x2pro I see...nothing (a brief flicker of the cursor, or was I imagining it?)

Infotips for other file types appear OK.

Same anomoly on both PCs I've tired (both XPpro).
Both of them have HKEY CLASSES ROOT\* with Infotip value of:
prop:Type;DocAuthor;DocTitle;DocSubject;DocComments;Write;Size

One of them has HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp3\ShellEx\ with subkeys of
{00021500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}
The other has no such subkeys.

Any ideas why my x2 doesn't like mp3 infotips??

chances are that these mp3 are large enough to exceed the infotip limit set in tools | options | general; you can increase the limit to taste

xp is known to get into knots trying to get infotips out of large media files
it can lock the system!
